Search Group Solutions is hiring for a multi-generational construction firm known for its work in excavation, asphalt and concrete paving, civil engineering, and site development. With more than 60 years of history and a reputation for quality and innovation, the company is expanding its estimating team for private-sector projects. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for evaluating bid specifications, drawings, and project requirements to develop competitive and accurate bids. You’ll play a critical role in supporting preconstruction efforts, creating subcontractor bid packages, analyzing proposals, and ensuring seamless project handoff once awarded. The role requires a high level of autonomy, accuracy, and expertise in heavy civil scopes._______________________________________________
Key Responsibilities:
Bid Management & Strategy- Evaluate bid documents and ensure all requirements are accounted for.
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages and ensure adequate trade coverage by bid day.
- Develop creative value-engineering strategies to improve competitiveness and profitability.
- Maintain clear communication with subcontractors and suppliers to secure the most competitive pricing.
- Submit all bids and budgets on or before deadlines—no exceptions.
- Review and understand the full scope of assigned trades.
- Generate RFIs and clarifications to ensure accuracy.
- Match subcontractors to project scope and complexity.
- Perform thorough "bid day" analysis and trade scoping.
- Build comprehensive bid lists with qualified subs while minimizing exclusions.
- Transfer project budget and data into internal systems (Viewpoint) within one week of the award.
- Coordinate a handoff meeting with the Project Management team, reviewing drawings, job cost, and open vendor decisions.
- Complete kickoff documentation to ensure project compliance and operational alignment.
- Award contracts and release materials promptly after bid approval.
- Ensure subcontractors understand project schedules and expectations.
- Share project details (contacts, permits, milestones) with vendors and subs.
- Identify and qualify new subcontractors to expand bench strength.
Job Requirement
Requirements:
- 8–12 years of estimating experience in heavy civil, highway, or airfield construction, OR a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, trade scopes, and bid administration.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), Viewpoint, HCSS Heavy Bid, and Heavy Job.
- Excellent time management and multitasking abilities across multiple active bids.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Carlson takeoff software.
- Familiarity with private commercial or site development projects.
